Geology is the scientific study of the Earth, focusing on its materials, structure, processes, and history, as well as the dynamic forces that have shaped the planet over billions of years. It involves examining rocks, minerals, fossils, and landscapes to reconstruct past environments, understand present-day Earth systems, and predict future geological changes. The discipline plays a central role in exploring and managing natural resources such as minerals, groundwater, and fossil fuels, while also contributing to the assessment and mitigation of natural hazards like earthquakes, landslides, and volcanic eruptions. On a global scale, geology is advancing rapidly through interdisciplinary approaches that combine fieldwork, laboratory analysis, remote sensing, and geophysical modeling. The Indian subcontinent is well respected for its growing research activity in the geosciences, particularly in circum-Himalayan earth science, where studies of tectonics, seismicity, and mountain-building processes have made significant contributions to understanding Earth’s geodynamic systems. As societies face challenges related to climate change, sustainable development, and environmental resilience, geology continues to provide essential knowledge for managing natural resources, protecting ecosystems, and safeguarding human communities.

Aims & Scope

The Pakistan Journal of Geology is a peer-reviewed scientific journal dedicated to publishing high-quality research that advances knowledge of Earth’s structure, materials, processes, and resources, with a special emphasis on Pakistan, Asia, and Africa. The journal aims to provide a platform for geoscientists, researchers, and professionals to share original research articles, reviews, and applied studies that address both fundamental questions and practical challenges in the geosciences.

The journal strongly encourages interdisciplinary research that combines field investigations, laboratory analysis, remote sensing, and numerical modeling. By fostering collaboration across Asia, Africa, and the global geoscience community, The Pakistan Journal of Geology seeks to advance Earth science research, support sustainable resource use, and enhance resilience against geological and environmental hazards.
